While theory will lay the foundation for a therapist’s work, research shows the most important factor that leads to successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance, also known as the relationship between the therapist and the client.
In other words, the strongest predictor of your success in therapy will depend on who you work with and whether you can develop a personal relationship with them that is trusting, collaborative and effective. Theory will guide the work, but your personal connection with your therapist has greater influence.
With that in mind, my approach to counseling is highly empathetic, direct and relational. Counseling sessions are infused with warmth, humor, cutting edge research and evidence-based practices to help client’s achieve their goals. My approach is grounded in Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems, Emotion Focused Therapy and Existential Therapy. When appropriate, I pull from a variety of modalities in order to access intervention systems that work for each unique individual, couple and family.
